Armed police officers are outside the Park Inn Hotel on West George Street. The situation is under control and there is no threat

Scotland's first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, said the details of the incident were "very disturbing" and that police were providing information as the situation became clearer.

He said his heart goes out to everyone affected by the incident.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has said that he was shocked to hear of the incident.

Scotland Police Chief Steve Johnson has warned people to stay away from the area.
He said armed police officers had taken control of the situation and confirmed that a suspect had been shot by police

No threat to the public, police said in a statement.
He also confirmed that a policeman was injured and was receiving medical treatment. He told the public that police were no longer looking for another suspect in the incident. The Park Inn Hotel where the incident took place was being used to provide temporary accommodation to asylum seekers in the country. Scottish Justice Minister Hamza Youssef said in a Twitter message that the police were informing the government about the situation.
An eyewitness who gave his name as June said that when he came down from the third floor of the hotel, he saw blood on the reception counter.
He told PA that at first he saw only one injured. He said he went to the front door and shouted at the injured man, "They are calling someone for help and be patient." He said he then saw another man in a life-and-death struggle.
Another eyewitness, Craig Mulroy, who was outside a nearby office building, said he saw four people being taken away in an ambulance. He told the local news agency PA that he saw an African-American man lying on the ground with no shoes on his feet. He said another man was holding his hand to his stomach but did not know if it was a bullet wound or a stab wound.

The eyewitness added that the man was among four people who were taken to hospital and appeared to be among the victims.
He said there was chaos after that and several ambulances were parked and armed policemen were seen rushing inside the hotel.
He said he was just standing there when the police came out and told him to go inside and close the door from inside.
