30 killed in Bangladesh boat accident



Dhaka, June 29 (UNI) A boat called 'Morning Bird' carrying more than 50 passengers crashed in the Bodhi Ganga river near Shyam Bazaar in the old part of Bangladesh's capital Dhaka on Monday morning. 30 people were killed. All the bodies have been recovered.

Rozina Akhtar, duty officer of fire service and civil defense headquarters, confirmed the matter to UNI. So far, 30 bodies have been found near the crash site, he said. They include the bodies of some women and children.

The accident happened at 10 a.m. when the Morning Bird collided with another Peacock 2 boat. Some passengers swam out and saved their lives. Coast Guard, fire service and army rescue workers and divers are involved in the rescue operation.
