The Afghan Jihad was Basically a covert operation by the USA Pakistan ISI was just a Middleman to Provide Assistance to The Mujaheddin who were Hypnotized in the name of Islam,The core Reason for  the  So called Jihad was Americans wanted to Destroy Russia while Keeping themselves away

CIA did not channel its support directly to the Mujaheddin.
