Can India Face a Strong China in Laddakh?what happened in the Stand-Off

What is the cause of border tension between India and China in the Gulwan Valley?

Tensions are rising on the India-China border. Both countries are increasing their military presence on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Tensions between the two countries erupted over the Gulwan Valley in Aksai Chin.
India says some Chinese military tents have been spotted around the Gulwan Valley. Since then, India has also increased the number of troops there. At the same time, China has accused India of carrying out illegal defense-related constructions near the Gulwan Valley.
In May, clashes broke out at various places on the border between the two countries.
On May 9, there was a clash between Indian and Chinese troops in North Sikkim. Meanwhile, Chinese military helicopters were spotted near LAC in Ladakh. India then began patrolling with other fighter jets, including the Sukhoi.
Air Force Chief RKS Bhadoria also mentioned China.
"There were some unusual activities," he said. We keep a close eye on such incidents and take necessary action. There is no need to worry too much in such cases.
Meanwhile, Army Chief General MM Narwane had said after a clash between the two countries' armies that the Indian Army was stationed on the Chinese border and work was underway on a development program for infrastructure in the border areas.
He also said that the soldiers of the two countries had behaved aggressively in these clashes and therefore suffered minor injuries.

China blames India

China has blamed India for the tension. An article published in China's official newspaper Global Times on Monday blamed India for tensions in the Galvan River region.
The newspaper quoted the Chinese military as saying, "India has built illegal defenses in the region." Because of this, China has had to increase its military presence there.
India has initiated this tension. But we are sure that a situation like Doklam will not arise here as it happened in Doklam in 2017. India is suffering from the economic woes caused by Code 19 and it has created tension in Galvan to divert public attention.
The Global Times also reported that the Galvan Valley is a Chinese territory. The steps taken by India violate the agreement on border issues between India and China. India has been crossing the border into the Galvan Valley and entering Chinese territory since early May.

Why is Galvan Valley important?

The disputed area of the Galvan Valley is in Aksai Chin. The Galvan Valley is located near the Indo-China border between Ladakh and Aksai Chin.
Here the Line of Actual Control (LAC) separates China from India. Both India and China claim ownership of Aksai Chin. The valley stretches as far south as Xinjiang in China and as far as Ladakh in India.
SD Mani, a former professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University and an expert on international affairs, said the area is strategically important to India as it shares borders with Pakistan, China's Xinjiang and Ladakh. Even during the 1962 war, this area of the Galvan River was the center of the war.
Border tensions during the Corona crisis

On the one hand, the whole world is fighting the corona virus. The number of victims in India has reached more than one lakh and Europe and the United States are repeatedly questioning China. In such a situation, what is the reason for a new conflict between the two countries?
SD Mani says that at present India wants to further strengthen its claim in areas which it believes are its own territory. But it is actually a disputed area.
"It started in 1958 when China built a road in Aksai Chin that connects to the Karakoram Highway and leads to Pakistan," he explains.
When the road was being built, India's attention was not drawn to it, but after the road was built, the then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru objected to it. Since then, India has been saying that China has occupied Aksai Chin.
He says that at that time India did not take any military action against him. Action is being taken now because India has to make its claim. As India has begun to consolidate its claim to Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. In this context, activities are also underway in Aksai Chin. But now China is worried.
SD Mani says China is outlawing Indian construction in the Galvan Valley because there is an agreement between India and China that they will accept LACs and will not build new ones there. But China has already done the necessary military construction there and is now talking about maintaining the status quo. India now wants to build a strategic building there to strengthen its position.

India's changing strategy

What is the reason for the change in India's strategy from Pakistan-administered Kashmir to Aksai Chin? Is India feeling insecure and has it become aggressive?
SD Mani says that India has not become aggressive but has now started speaking openly. He is now asserting his authority over the places where he is claiming his rights.

He says that today's India is a much stronger India than it was in 1962. It is also strong from an economic point of view. In addition, the way China has emerged, the threat has increased.
"India's relations with Pakistan are also very bad and this increases the risk. In such a situation, the Government of India feels that it should secure its borders. If India conducts military construction in Aksai Chin, then from there it will monitor the activities of the Chinese army.
On the other hand, the Global Times quoted a research fellow as saying that the situation in the Galvan Valley is not like Doklam. The Chinese army is strong in Aksai Chin and the Indian army may have to pay a heavy price to escalate tensions.
In this regard, experts believe that China is in a strong position there and it can harm India. However, the corona virus has weakened China diplomatically. The European Union and the United States have openly accused it, while India has yet to comment on China.
In such a scenario, China expects a balanced approach from India. India is in a position to negotiate with China on this front.

Will the pressure on these countries increase?

China has accused India of creating a border dispute to divert attention from Corona's affairs.
"The fight against the corona virus has its place and national security has its place," he said.
China is also expanding its military presence in the South China Sea. The world is dealing with the corona virus, but the military is not fighting the corona virus. The army will do its job. "
He says these are issues of strategic importance that existed before Corona, are present and will remain so in the future. Therefore, China's claim is not correct.
