The Lady Waris Shah | Immortal Amrita Pritam | Punjab Tigress | "Aaj Aakhan Waris Shah Noon" | Punjab Bleeds

 Amrita Pritam was born Amrit Kaur in 1919 in Gujranwala, Punjab, in British India. Her father was Kartar Singh Hitkari, who was a poet, a scholar of the Braj Bhasha language, and the editor of a literary journal. Besides this, he was a pracharak – a preacher of the Sikh faith. Her mother was Raj Bibi, who was a school teacher.





Amrita was just eleven years old when her mother died and both father and daughter moved to Lahore. The city had a strong impact on her literary life.

She married Pritam Singh although the marriage flopped and they divorced she kept her name till death. She began her work for Amrit Lehran in 1936 and later to Lok Peed in 1944.

The 1947 partition which claimed around a million lives and millions displaced forced her to leave Lahore and move to New Delhi. She wrote her famous poem “Aaj Akhan Waris Shah Noon” The poem written in the background of the bloody Partition makes her immortal Waris Shah’s Poetry is what makes her the most Famous Poetess of Punjab She got divorced Pritam Singh in 1960.

She was in deep love with Sahir Ludhianvi who later shifted to Sudha Malhotra and it shook her completely she started living with her friend Inderjeet Imroz a Loyal friend She wrote her Love story with Rasidi Ticket.
She later lived with her Friend Inderjeet Imroz who stood with him through Thick and thin




Amrita Pritam had also a daughter Kandlla Her son was murdered in 2012 and this is still a Blind murder motive unknown.

Amrita left the world in 2005 but as long as Punjabi is spoken she will remain alive.
