 ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif (R) welcomes 04 March 1993 at his residence in Islamabad Karim Khalili (L), Shiite Afghan Muslim who heads the Hizb-i-Wahdat (United Party) while former Afghan president Sibghatullah Mojaddedi (C), a moderate Afghan politician, looks on, during the Afghan peace talks. Khalili took over the reigns of the faction in 1995, after the Taliban murdered Shiite leader Abdul Ali Mazari in Kabul. He quickly earned a reputation as a pragmatic moderate keen to stake claim to power for Sunni-dominated Afghanistan's Shiites. Wahdat claims the Hazara community represents around 15-20 percent of Afghans.
